How to save your wasteline: baked French fries

Ingredients
3 medium red potatoes
olive oil
pinch of Himalayan salt

My recent quest for a gourmet burger, although an emotional roller coaster ride in itself, also brought about some pleasant side(s) effects - home baked fries that I want to share with you.

Like anyone with an interest in healthy food, my relationship with the French fry has not always been smooth sailing. Being at the same time one of the world’s unhealthiest dishes (LOADS of fat and salt), and one of the world’s most delicious dishes (LOADS of fat and salt), I have been torn between giving in to my taste buds and preserving my waste line.

And then one day, I discovered baked fries and who knew that something that initially seemed like a lukewarm compromise could turn out to be so delectable?

For baked fries, I’d recommend red potatoes because they have a lower starch content and hold their shape better once cut into strips. After slicing, to cover all the fries evenly, mix them in a bowl with a spritzer of olive oil and some Himalayan salt and then, spread them out on a baking sheet that also has been rubbed with a little bit of oil. Bake for 20 min at 350-400 depending on your oven, and finish them off with broiling for an extra 5-10 minutes for extra crispiness.

Life is good!
